MANAGER & COACHES CODE OF CONDUCT
Managers/Coaches have to be aware that almost all of their everyday decisions and choices of actions, as well as strategic targets, have ethical implications.
It is natural that winning constitutes a basic concern for managers/coaches. This code is not intended to conflict with that. However, the code calls for managers/coaches to disassociate themselves from a “win-at-all-costs” attitude.
- Ensure the wellbeing and safety of every player above all other considerations.
- Always be a positive role model for players, parents/guardians, spectators alike.
- Always display high standards of behaviour, appearance, punctuality and instruction.
- Always show encouragement and positive attitude at all times to the players.
- Always promote the positive aspects of football and never condone any form of violent or danagerous play.
- At the outset clarify with each player (and where appropriate their parents/guardians) exactly what is expected of them and also what they are entitled to expect from you.
- Encourage players to accept responsibility for their own behaviour and performance.
- Make every effort to promote harmonious relations with opposition players, management and spectators.
- Always work in an open environment (eg. Wherever possible avoid private or unobserved situations with individual players).
- Never use inappropriate, foul, abusive, racial language or tolerate such language from players, parents/guardians, spectators.
- Never discriminate against any player, parent/guardian or spectator (including opposition teams), by reason of sex, sexual orientation, race, nationality, ethnic origin, colour, religion, disability or economic status.
- Never permit the harassment or bullying of a player by any of their fellow players.
- Never show unacceptable favouritism to any individual player.
- Always have a contact number at a match or training for all players.
- Stay in attendance at a match or training (preferably another adult), until the last player has safely left for home.
- Inform all players (and where appropriate their parents/guardians) of their selection or non-selection for a match.
